Prompt thoughts

I’m not sure yet, but I think our next prompt is going to be about stories. I don’t want to just open and close subjects like some crazy round of speed dating. So I think that subjects should interconnect enough so that a common thread can be sewn throughout them, yet remain unoque enough so that someone can still contribute without needing to nestle their idea within some overarching theme. Prompts can be drawn by contributors from previous contributions, or even ignored entirely. They should resemble stories. Stories never really end or begin after all. The ones we tell do, however those are really just fragments of a whole. Glittering scenes that catch our eye, are extracted and given names and significance. And they are, you know. Significant. Anything that can move you to tears is.

Thank you so much C. and Emily for your wonderful contributions to the topic of “Love”:-) C. for their unafraid embrace of the idea, and Emily for her personal stories and conflicted approach to it. There is a courage to both of these approaches. For C. it is to speak candidly in support of an idea that many people would be too concerned about manufacturing the socially acceptable level of cynicism to discuss honestly. And for Emily it is the vulnerability in showing your scars.

I was thinking about the concept of “Guilty Pleasures” earlier. It applies here because there are so many people who will refrain from talking about something they enjoy because of their fear of judgement. I used to be this way. Over time I have lost my give a fuck when it comes to this phenomenon. Well, almost. You HAVE to hide the things about you that could create problems for you while you’re in this environment. An extreme case: Sometimes it is not profitable to discuss your love of racial equality and social justice while sitting in a holding tank with a dozen bald white men covered in swastikas and with arms the size of Corinthian pillars.

And so on.

I will end this with 10 “Guilty Pleasures” of mine that I am exposing here for the first time. Judge away!

1. Gilmore Girls every night at 11:00 on START Tv. Back to back.

2. Olivia Rodrigo. Taylor Swift. And now, *sigh* Harry Styles.

3. The movies “Con Air”, “Armageddon”, “Titanic”, “Red

Dawn” (the original) “The Last Unicorn”.

4. Lee Child.

5. The show “Say Yes to the Dress”

6. Love

7. Flowers. Especially roses.

8. e.e. cummings. NOT overrated.

9. Hot dogs. Meat in general

10.Butt rock ballads. These include (but are not limited to) “When I See You Smile”, ” I’ll Remember You”, “To Be With You”, “Heaven” “Something to Believe in” “When the Children Cry” “Patience” “Don’t Cry” “I Saw Red”. “Poison” “The End of the Road” (R and B, but that’s a whole other topic.)

R.
